eBay fees FAQ
Real questions sellers ask, with 2026 answers.
How much does eBay take from a sale?
For most US categories in 2026: 13.6% of the total sale (item price + buyer-paid shipping) plus a $0.40 per-order fee on sales over $10. On a $100 item with free shipping that's $13.60 + $0.40 = $14.00, leaving you $86.00.
Is the final value fee charged on shipping too?
Yes. eBay calculates the fee on the total amount of the sale — item price plus the shipping the buyer pays (and sales tax collected). Listing at $1 with $50 shipping does not avoid fees.
Which categories have different fee rates?
Notable exceptions: Books, Movies & Music (15.3%), Collectibles & Trading Cards (13.25%), Guitars & Basses (6.7%), Jewelry & Watches (15%), Women's Handbags (15%, dropping to 9% over $2,000), and Athletic Shoes ($150+ drops to 8% with no per-order fee).
Do eBay Store subscribers pay lower fees?
Yes. A Basic Store or higher drops most categories from 13.6% to about 12.7%, with bigger discounts in electronics, cameras and computers. Store subscribers also get far more free listings (up to 100,000/month on Enterprise vs 250 without a store).
How do Promoted Listings fees work?
If your sale comes through a Promoted Listings placement, eBay adds your chosen ad rate (typically 2–10%) on top of the standard final value and per-order fees. Enter your ad rate in the calculator to include it.
Is selling on eBay UK really free for private sellers?
Since late 2024, UK private (casual) sellers pay no final value fee in most categories (motors excluded) and get 300 free listings a month. Instead, the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee: £0.10 + 7% up to £20, 4% from £20–£300, 2% from £300–£4,000. Business sellers still pay full fees.
What are insertion fees?
US sellers without a store get 250 free fixed-price listings per month; each extra listing costs $0.35 whether or not it sells. Good 'Til Cancelled listings renew every 30 days and each renewal counts against the allowance.
Are these the exact current fees?
The defaults match eBay's published 2026 US schedule as compiled from multiple seller tools in October 2026, but eBay adjusts rates by category and over time — and your store level and seller standing matter. Every rate in the calculator is editable; check Seller Hub for your exact numbers.
